Geary County Office Building

The Geary County Office Building houses several of the administrative departments that run the county.

The Geary County Appraiser provides appraisals of real estate as well as personal property for tax purposes. The appraiser does not set or collect taxes. These appraisals are part of the valuation submitted to the county clerk who prepares the mill levy for the county based on the taxation set by governing boards.

The Geary County Clerk serves as the official secretary for the Board of the County Commissioners and records meeting minutes. The Clerk also keeps receipts and expenditures of county accounts and maintains tax roll and annual inventory of county property. Permits for movement on public roads, and hunting and fishing licenses are issued by the Clerk. The office also conducts voter registration and elections.

The Human Resources department serves Geary County by assisting all departments in developing a motivated workforce. It also maintains and ensures county compliance with employment laws.

  • The Finance Office manages many of the county's business processes including, but not limited to, accounts payable, financial management, the annual county budget and audit, capital improvement program, and in conjunction with Human Resources, payroll.

The Register of Deeds department records and files deeds as well as all other documents submitted by the public which qualify to be recorded. It also maintains an up-to-date and accurate set of indexes which show correct ownership of land in the county, liens, and mortgages. Additionally, it handles transfers of power of attorney and military discharges.

The County Treasurer’s Office is responsible for tax billing, collection, and distribution of tax money for the state, county, cities of Kansas and all other taxing entitles that levy Ad Valorem and/or special assessment taxes. The Treasurer is also responsible for all other monies belonging to Geary County and/or directed by law to be paid to the Treasurer. In addition, the Treasurer serves as an agent for the State Department of Revenue—Division of Vehicles, regarding administration of state motor vehicle title and registration laws.
